Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

An unusual, fast-growing climber with exotic, trumpet-shaped flowers, which appear during late summer. Campsis × tagliabuana 'Madame Galen' is an impressive climbing plant, which appears tropical, but is actually hardy in the UK and easy to grow.

Campsis is the perfect climber to cover fences and walls, and climbs by aerial roots, and can reach 12m (3.9') tall. Once established, plants will thrive on neglect, so are perfect for lazy gardeners! Campsis can also be grown in large containers on the patio. Height: up to 10m (32'). Spread: 3m (9.8').

Flowering Months
Once Trumpet Vine plants are established in the border, they will prove to be drought resistant. After planting your Campsis, cut back all stems to 15cm (6") from the ground, to stimulate new growth. Train the strongest new shoots, and remove weaker shoots. After 2 or 3 years, a framework will be established, and you should prune back sideshoots to within 2 or 3 shoots of the main stems. Prune in late winter.
Although Campsis are fully hardy, they will perform better when grown against a warm, sunny wall for added protection and better flowering performance. Plant into moist, but well-drained soil in a sunny position. Alternatively, grow Campsis plants in patio containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.2, and add extra grit for drainage.
