Description

Camellia japonica 'Roger Hall' makes is a bushy evergreen shrub that makes a fabulous formal display. In spring, the lustrous green foliage is decorated with bright red flowers that make a striking contrast. Its shapely double blooms are perfectly formed, with layers of stiff petals that create the perfect rosette. With a neat and compact, upright habit, this outstanding shrub is perfect for containers or planting into acid borders. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 2m (6’).

Culinary note: The flowers can be used as garnishes but are also dried and then cooked in Asian cuisine. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.
More Info

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
