Description
Breathtaking 30cm (12") blooms literally drip from the twining stems of Wisteria macrostachya 'Blue Moon'. As the name suggests, the fragrant flowers are a superb lavender-blue shade that certainly draws the eye. The pinnate summer foliage creates an attractive leafy screen, covering walls with ease. This stunning cultivar is particularly hardy. A particularly fine variety of a classic cottage garden climber. Height: 7m (22’). Spread: 3m (10’). Supplied as a grafted plant.

Culinary note: The flowers are the only edible part of the plant and can be made into an aromatic wine. Their flavour is perfumed. Caution: All other parts of wisteria are poisonous. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow wisteria plants in a sunny or semi shaded site in any moist, well drained soil. Wisteria flower buds can be damaged by hard spring frosts so choose a sheltered position. Prior to planting add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate and sturdy support, such as strong trellis or wires attached to walls and pergolas.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Prune wisteria in July and again in February. During the first two years, prune wisteria to create a framework of permanent stems. Tie in selected lateral shoots to sturdy supports and cut back unwanted growth. Once the desired framework has been created, continue pruning wisteria twice a year to contain the plants growth within its allotted space.
