Description

You won’t taste better tomatoes than the ones that you harvest from your own garden! This collection combines three varieties that will keep you supplied with tomatoes all summer long. These varieties are perfect for containers or planters in the greenhouse or on the patio, but can also be planted in a sunny spot in the garden.

The Tomato Sweet Trio contains the Sweet Aperitif, Sweet Million and Sungold varieties.

  • Tomato 'Sweet Aperitif' has a high sugar content and just the right amount of acidity which combine beautifully for a sweet, but refreshing flavour. This cordon variety can be grown in the greenhouse, or in a sheltered, sunny spot outdoors. With its multi branching fruit trusses, this red skinned cherry tomato produces excellent yields of delicious, bite sized fruits. Each fruit weighs approximately 12g and when grown in the greenhouse over a long period, up to 500 thin-skinned, shiny red cherry fruits are produced per plant - that's about 6kg (13 lbs)!
  • Tomato 'Sungold' has an exceptionally high sugar content, which easily rivals 'Gardeners Delight', making its attractive, golden-orange fruit irresistibly sweet and juicy. The high yields of delicious thin-skinned fruit (each approximately 13g) are ideal for salads or as a tasty snack. This popular variety also has good resistance to tobacco mosaic virus and fusarium wilt. A hardy nature ensures this vigorous performer will crop well into winter in a cool greenhouse.
  • Tomato 'Sweet Million' is a fantastic cherry tomato variety with heavy crops. Ideal for growing in greenhouses, however this versatile variety can also be grown in a sunny spot on the patio. For smaller gardens these can be grown in grow bags.

How to Grow

Pot up, and grow tomato plants on in warm frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days.

Choose a sheltered position in full sun on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Alternatively grow tomatoes in patio bags and containers in good quality compost. Drive a (5') cane into the soil adjacent to each plant to support them as they grow, and tie each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info

Water tomato plants frequently, to keep the compost evenly moist. Feed tomatoes regularly with a high potash plant food once the first truss of fruit has formed.

Tie the main stems to their supports and remove any sideshoots that develop between the main stem and the leaf stems. Once the plant has produced 6 or 7 trusses, pinch out the top of the main stem. This process of "sideshooting" and "stopping" will increase the availability of light and air movement around the developing fruit, and focus the plants energy on producing a good crop of high quality tomatoes. Tomatoes can be harvested as they ripen from July to October.
