Description Sowing More Info Delivery Reviews
Bushy. An outstanding early British-bred Butternut squash. In T&M's trials Squash Harrier F1 was the quickest to ripen, and was ready to harvest approximately 95 days from sowing. The bushy plants of Squash Harrier have an open habit allowing the sun to ripen fruits naturally on the plant giving added sweetness. Pear shaped fruits weigh 800g (1 3/4lb). 4 to 5 fruits per plant, with excellent long storage at 10C.

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Keep well watered throughout the season. Feed and mulch regularly.

Sow May to June. Sow seeds 2cm ( 3/4in) deep in 7.5cm (3in) pots of good seed compost at 21-25C (70-77F). Place in a propagator or seal container in a polythene bag until after germination which takes 7-10 days.Seeds can also be sown direct outdoors once the soil has warmed. Do not sow in cold soils. Sow 2 seeds every 90cm (36in) and thin out to the best seedling. Ideally grow under cloches until the plant is established.

Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for a few days before planting out after all risk of frost has passed, 90cm (36in) apart each way.

Excellent! 2016-10-17

These were my first attempt at butternuts. I had no problems with germination (I used a heated propagated) and I've had loads of good sized fruits from my plants which are still happily growing outside and still producing new fruit. Once they got going they were very low maintenance, my only comment is I expected the plants to be compact and they're not, but just treat them as normal squash plants. Very pleased, I'll be getting these again.

T&M replied on 2016-10-18: Thank you very much for your review. I am very pleased that you have been happy with your purchase and thank you so much for taking the time to let us know. I hope we can continue to be of service to you in the future.

brittle stems 2015-05-30

I sowed all the seeds in pots (x2) in the glasshouse. All germinated. While moving some pots, two of the young plants snapped and I put the broken top back in the pot like a cutting. I gave away all but what I needed. While hardening the young plants off, two more stems snapped. I planted out the remaining to find in the morning the wind snapped another squash plant off just above ground level. I've never had such a fragile stem on any plant. The other plot holders I gave my surplus plants to also had snapped transplants. These 'Winter Harrier' stems are too brittle. Please reply but do not tell me no one else has told T&M of this. You need to know and I am informing you.

T&M replied on 2015-06-04: Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Squash 'Harrier'. If you could please contact our Customer Care Team on, one of our agents will be happy to investigate this matter further.

Hooray for the Harrier 2014-09-29

I am so pleased with the Harrier Squash plants. The flowers are superb, leaves healthy and the squah is ripening quite quickly. I have had to support the biggest one in a net cradle. Certainly a must grow for next year, too.

Superb 2014-01-30

Will definitely grow again. These squash are just the right size and store exceptionally well.
