Trialled over 2 years in varying soil and climates by the British Association of Rose Breeders, these roses have been rigorously tested for health, vigour and garden performance, as well as impressing the judges with their stunning beauty. If you’re stumped by which rose to choose but are searching for an easy-care rose display which is guaranteed to wow you through the summer, then look no further!

Rose of the Year Collection contains 4 bare root plants, one of each of the following varieties:

Rose 'Sweet Honey' (Floribunda) - Rose of the year for 2020

This repeat flowering cultivar bears clusters of shapely, lightly scented blooms throughout the summer. The flowers are a delicate honey shade, which stand out beautifully against the dark, glossy foliage. Excellent disease resistance and a compact habit. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 75cm (29").

Rose 'Belle du Jour' (Floribunda) - Rose of the Year 2021

Heavily petalled flowers of up to 7cm across are borne freely in summer. The orange-striped buds open to reveal masses of golden petals that fade to palest yellow on their outer edges. Each elegant bloom releases an intense perfume that blends the fresh scent of spring flowers with the rich, sweet notes of vanilla. Excellent disease resistance and a vigorous, upright habit. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Rose 'It's a Wonderful Life' (Floribunda) - Rose of the Year 2022

A profusion of apricot-pink blooms with over 60 petals per flower are borne throughout summer, with new blooms replacing those that fade. The blooms vary in their colour as temperatures fluctuate throughout the growing season. Strong growing and disease free. Height and spread:100cm (39").

Rose 'Peach Melba' (Climber) - Rose of the Year for 2023

This concoction of peach and crushed strawberry is simply gorgeous. Repeat flowering through the summer, it bears cup-shaped, fragrant blooms in delicately blended shades of apricot and pink. Classed as a short climber, it’s perfect for smaller walls or even growing in a large container. The blooms are borne on plants with a bushy, erect habit which are resistant to blackspot, mildew and rust. Height: 200cm (78”). Spread: 150cm (60”)

How to Grow
Your bare roots should be planted at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Once planted, they will remain in their dormant state until the spring. Above ground you won't see much happening over the winter, but the roots will be establishing ready for your roses to grow away quickly once the warmer weather arrives. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.
More Info
Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In late winter, begin pruning roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Then reduce strong young stems by up to a third of their length. Side shoots should be reduced to two buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.
