Description
Firethorn may sound a bit intense, but this Pyracantha coccinea variety ‘Red Star’ has less thorns amongst its stems than others. The foliage remains dark in all seasons, which makes a stunning backdrop for the white blooms and red fruits later in the season. They can be grown as a standalone shrub and can also be planted up and tied to a strong framework and grown as a climber. Please note these fruits should not be eaten and can cause stomach upset. Height and spread 3m (10’).

How to Grow
Grow Pyracantha plants as free-standing shrubs train as a hedge, or grow against a wall or fence. Plant Firethorn into any well drained, reliably moist soil in sun or semi shade. Choose a position with shelter from cold, drying winds.

Feed and water Pyracantha plants regularly until full established. Prune free-standing shrubs in early spring, removing damaged and poorly positioned shoots. For wall trained shrubs, tie in main shoots to form part of the permanent framework, and cut back
