Description
Widely known for its delicate catkins in spring, Salix caprea, or Pussy Willow as it's more commonly known is also an extremely useful hedging plant. Perfect for planting in poorly draining areas, salix will often flourish in places where other hedging will not and, providing it has plenty of sunlight, will form a thicket of interwoven branches that will form an effective barrier all year round. Height: 12m (39'). Spread: 8m (26'). Planting Distance: 45cm (18"). (3 plants per metre for a single line hedge).

How to Grow
Plant Willow in moist soil that is also well drained. When initially planting, ensure plenty of compost or organic matter is incorporated into the planting hole to give the plant the best possible start.

Water well until established, prune out dead or old wood to encourage new shoots to appear.
