Our globe-trotting plant hunter just had to add this pretty poppy to our UK trials programme, but rushing it home to our Ipswich HQ, it seems something got lost in translation - ‘Bicolour’ was misheard as ‘Bigalow’ and the name stuck! Graceful flowers float on sturdy stems over compact foliage. Sow in drifts across the border or scatter some seed into any spare gaps as luxurious fillers! They are easy to grow in almost any site, looking magnificent in the border, fantastic in large containers and will come up year after year in the garden, if self-sown seedlings are left to grow. Height: 75cm (30in).Spread: 30cm (12in).

Sowing
Direct sow Poppy seeds outdoors where they are to grow in spring or autumn. Choose a position in full sun on fertile, well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, just below the soil surface. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 7 - 14 days. When Poppy seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12") apart.
More Info
Feed and water poppy plants frequently throughout the summer. When growing oriental poppies, deadhead faded poppy flowers regularly to encourage more blooms to be produced. Cut back old foliage to ground level in autumn. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Oriental poppy in spring.
