Best known as the Canary Date Palm, this striking plant will bring instant architecture to your conservatory or patio. The magnificent, stiffly upright leaves arch elegantly from a short, columnar truck. Native to the Canary Islands, Phoenix canariensis requires frost free conditions all year round, with a minimum temperature of 10C (50F), making it ideal for growing as an evergreen specimen plant in a heated conservatory. It is well suited to growing in containers and makes a fine addition to a sunny patio during the summer months. In winter, move containers to a warm greenhouse. The Phoenix Palm is undeniably impressive and holds a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 1.5m (5') when restricted in containers. If grown naturally in glasshouse borders this palm can reach 5m (16') height and 3m (10') spread.

Phoenix canariensis requires frost free conditions all year round, with a minimum temperature of 10C (50F). It is best grown in containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Position in full light with shelter from hot sun. Containers may be moved to a sunny patio during the summer months and returned to warm, frost free conditions in September. Alternatively, plant directly into greenhouse border soil for a more permanent display.
