Description
A simply stunning RHS AGM variety of Paeonia which boasts magnificent lemon scented, frilly, soft yellow flowers in late spring, with a flare of magenta around delicate yellow stamens. The result of a cross between a herbaceous and a Tree Peony, with the added advantage of producing excellent cut-flowers. Peony 'Bartzella' is a deciduous shrub with large, leathery green leaves that drop off in autumn. Height: 75cm (29"). Spread: 90cm (35").

Culinary note: The petals can be added to salads, or cooked slightly and sweetened for a treat. Peony water was also once considered a delicacy and the blooms can be floated in punches. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position. They prefer a well drained, rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant herbaceous peonies at a depth of around 5cm (2") below the soil surface. Planting too deeply may delay flowering.
More Info
Water regularly until peony plants are fully established. Thereafter, herbaceous peonies require little maintenance and will grow happily for many years if left undisturbed. However, they will appreciate a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost applied around the base of the plant in spring. Plants may take several years to establish before they produce their spectacular peony flowers.
