Description

Nepeta hybrid 'Cat's Pajamas' is a delightful addition to any garden, celebrated for its compact growth and extended blooming period. This ornamental catmint stands out with its tidy form and vibrant colors, making it a favorite among gardeners. Its versatility allows it to shine in various settings, whether as part of a border, edging a pathway, or enhancing container displays. Throughout the summer months, it offers a soft, aromatic presence that not only beautifies the landscape but also attracts a variety of pollinators, enriching the garden's ecosystem.

The plant produces an abundance of striking deep indigo-blue flowers, complemented by dark purple calyces, resulting in a stunning and continuous floral display from late spring to early autumn. One of its appealing features is the minimal maintenance it requires; often, only light deadheading is necessary to keep it looking its best. Its compact, rounded mound shape makes it particularly suitable for front-of-border planting, where it can be appreciated up close. Additionally, the aromatic grey-green foliage releases a delightful scent when brushed or crushed, adding another sensory layer to the garden experience.

Once established, 'Cat's Pajamas' demonstrates impressive drought tolerance and thrives in sunny, well-drained locations, making it a resilient choice for various garden conditions. Its resistance to deer and rabbits further enhances its appeal, especially for those in wildlife-prone areas. This low-maintenance plant is also less prone to flopping compared to taller Nepeta varieties, ensuring a neat appearance throughout the growing season. For those looking to encourage fresh growth and repeat flowering, a light shearing after the initial bloom can be beneficial, making this catmint not only beautiful but also easy to care for.
