Packed with year-round interest, Malus toringo ‘Wintergold’ makes a rewarding tree for small gardens. In spring, pink buds burst into fragrant white blossom that provides plenty of food for insects emerging from hibernation. Glossy, dark green leaves turn yellow in autumn. The blossom is followed by pendulous clusters of persistent, golden-yellow fruits that look fabulous framed against a bright blue winter sky. Malus 'Wintergold' is a broadly rounded deciduous tree that copes with all soil types and tolerates heavy clay much better than flowering cherries.

Crab apples are one of the best small trees for bringing a long season of interest to smaller gardens. Featuring spring blossom, autumn foliage colour and fruit they provide many months of colour plus food for insects and birds. The fruit can also be used to make crab apple jelly.
