Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' is a stunning, multi-season, small tree that is ideal for small gardens, courtyards and patios. This slow-growing deciduous tree or large shrub bears gorgeous, heart-shaped, deep red-purple leaves that are elegantly carried on thin, tiered branches. This graceful tree is worth growing for its summer foliage alone – it makes a stunning stand-alone tree, happily growing in the open ground but also suitable for a large patio container. In borders or container arrangements, the foliage makes a lovely contrast to lime green foliage plants. However, its lovely summer foliage is not Forest Pansy’s only asset – in autumn it has another treat in store - the leaves bursting into fiery shades of orange and crimson.
Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’ is primarily grown for its foliage colour, although it may produce a smattering of pink, pea-like flowers on bare branches in spring if it is grown in a warm, sheltered spot.
Arguably one of the best trees for small gardens, Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’ certainly deserves its RHS AGM. Height: 5m (16.4ft). Spread: 4 (13ft). (In 20 years).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

In the first few years after planting, water Cercis trees regularly, particularly during dry periods, until fully established. Redbud trees will naturally form a handsome, often multi-stemmed tree. No pruning is required except to remove any damaged or poorly placed branches in late winter if necessary.
Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' can also be grown as a large shrub, which encourages attractive, large leaves but sacrifices flowering. Once established, cut back all stems to 60-90cm (24-35") from the ground in late winter or early spring. This can be carried out every other year.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
