Description

The striking design of Iris reticulata ‘Spot On’ immediately captures attention. Rich purple standards with spotted white falls, splashed with lemon yellow and finished with a masterpiece flourish – a velvety daub of purple-black that looks like the paint is still wet!

These exquisite jewel-like flowers have an impact that reaches far beyond their small size. Appearing from the coldest, brutal days of February, Iris reticulata ‘Spot On’ is one of the very earliest of spring bulbs, defying the weather to bravely signal the arrival of spring. These apparently fragile beauties are surprisingly resilient – given sun and a free draining soil they require little maintenance and will naturalise strongly. Iris reticulata ‘Spot On’ is perfect for adding a bright punch of colour to your rockery, troughs, and planters or planted en masse at the front of borders. Height: 15cm (6”). Spread: 10cm (4”).

How to Grow
Plant Iris reticulata bulbs in late autumn, at a depth of approximately twice their own height. Choose a position in full sun in moist, free draining soil. To create a natural effect, cast the bulbs across the area and plant them where they land. Alternatively, plant bulbs in deep containers of loam based compost and grow on in a greenhouse or on cool sunny windowsills for an early indoor display.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
When growing dwarf iris, allow their foliage to die back naturally before removing it in order to feed the bulb for the following spring. Divide overcrowded clumps of dwarf iris bulbs in autumn. Keep pots of iris reticulata just moist during their dormant period and gradually increase watering as growth begins.
