Flowering Months
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
Hydrangea paniculata prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.

Second plant is flourishing! 2016-08-15

The replacement hydrangea is certainly very different from last year's and has huge pink/white heads , just as good ad the catalogue illustration! Very pleased with it and much admired! Thank you for the excellent customer service.

Very disappointed 2015-10-28

The plant when received was very leggy with a few buds all at the top of the branches. We transplanted it into a large container. It did grow and developed leaves and flower heads. These were lime green in colour and before the flower heads could come out fully to see if they would turn pink and white as in the illustration they started to wilt and turn brown! This was in mid July - I have taken photos to illustrate. We took it out of the pot to try and see why and noted that since planting there had been very little root growth. The plant lost all its leaves and we cut back the flower heads in mid August. It has since developed leaf buds which shows that it did not die completely and there is hope for next year! We had watered it and cared for the plant as directed! However we were disappointed at its potential demise and hope that it will recover and display the flowers as in your photo!
