From the acclaimed ‘Magical’ series, this colour changing Hydrangea boasts a chameleon-like transformation! The rounded flower-heads are lime-green as they open, but gradually develop through shades of pink, purple and green until eventually turning red in autumn. Hydrangea macrophylla 'Magical Jewel' is a showy variety with a neat and compact habit, producing plenty of flowering shoots. The large flower heads are well-supported by stiff stems, making this a lovely variety for cutting for summer bouquets. Perfect for bringing colour and interest to lightly shaded borders, or a container on the patio. Height and spread: 90cm (36").

Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
