Description

A dramatic colour-changing Hydrangea that’s a real head-turner! The showy mophead blooms open in a fresh shade of lime-green before maturing to their true bicolour beauty. White flowers are edged in deep red which gradually fades to white as the flowers age. With so many different colour tones, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Light My Fire' has a different look each day!

Autumn turns its foliage to red and gold and the faded flower heads offer skeletal silhouettes in the winter, delivering long-lasting interest to the garden. This compact, well-branched shrub is ideal for patio pots or borders, deserving a prominent position where it can be fully appreciated. Height and spread: 120cm (48").

How to Grow
Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
