Description

Hydrangea arborescens 'Golden Annabelle' is a captivating deciduous shrub that stands out in any garden with its vibrant golden-yellow leaves and impressive clusters of creamy-white flowers. This remarkable cultivar not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of borders and woodland gardens but also thrives in containers, making it a versatile choice for various planting schemes. Its bold foliage brings a splash of brightness to shaded areas, while the large, domed flower heads create a stunning visual display from early to mid-summer, ensuring that the plant remains a focal point throughout the growing season.

The flowers of 'Golden Annabelle' are not only visually striking but also practical, as they are long-lasting and perfect for cutting or drying. This shrub's compact and bushy growth habit makes it an excellent option for smaller gardens or patio containers, allowing gardeners with limited space to enjoy its beauty. To achieve the best results, it is essential to provide this plant with consistent moisture in well-drained soil, ideally in conditions ranging from partial shade to full sun. Regular pruning in late winter or early spring will encourage robust stems and promote vigorous flowering, ensuring that the plant remains healthy and vibrant.

One of the standout features of 'Golden Annabelle' is its ability to bloom on new wood, which guarantees reliable flowering even after challenging winter conditions. This resilience makes it a hardy choice for gardens across the UK, as it can tolerate urban environments and varying weather patterns. When paired with darker-leaved or purple-flowering plants, 'Golden Annabelle' offers a striking visual contrast that enhances the overall garden design. Its combination of beauty, durability, and ease of care makes it a beloved addition to any landscape. Height: 100 cm (39 in) Spread: 100 cm (39 in)

How to Grow
Hydrangea arborescens prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
