Description
A well known variety that holds an RHS AGM for its garden performance. Hosta 'Wide brim' has heavily puckered, variegated foliage with deep green centres and pale gold margins. Lilac blue, funnel shaped flowers appear on tall stems throughout July. This clump forming perennial has an attractive mounding habit that creates a dense, rounded plant over time. A popular choice for a shaded position. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Culinary note: The best part to use is the hoston, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring. Cooking depends on the size of the hostons, small ones can be fried for a few minutes, going well in stir fries. Thicker ones are better boiled and used as a vegetable. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Hosta plants in sun or dappled shade, on rich, moist, well-drained soil. Before planting, work some fresh compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Alternatively plant Hosta in patio containers in soil based compost such as John In???

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
