Description
A luxuriant display of double, violet flowers make Geranium pratense 'Plenum Violaceum' a sought after variety. This hardy Geranium is free flowering in early summer, above a mound of finely-cut foliage that provides excellent ground cover at the front of borders. Like all Cranesbills, this hardy perennial is trouble-free, reliable and easy to grow. No wonder it was awarded a prestigious RHS AGM! Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").

1 bare root geranium (15701)
3 bare root geraniums (KC2064)

How to Grow
Plant hardy geraniums in a sunny or shaded position on any well drained soil.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. The growth points of most bare root perennials should be set about an inch below the soil surface. New growth will appear in spring.

More Info
Water regularly until fully established. Remove old foliage and faded flower stems throughout the growing season to promote continuous fresh growth. In autumn, cut the foliage back completely. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant in spring. Lift and divide hardy geranium plants every third year to maintain their vigour.
