A garden essential for acid-loving plants! Camellias, Blueberries, and Rhododendrons, to name but a few, will all thank you for this compost when you pot them up. Ericaceous compost has a low, acid pH which allows acid-loving plants to absorb iron and other nutrients properly. In ordinary compost with a higher pH, these vital nutrients become 'locked up' in the soil creating weak, spindly growth and yellowing foliage in ericaceous plants. This balanced compost provides the perfect low pH conditions for excellent root development and strong, healthy growth of all acid-loving plants including:

If you use your ericaceous compost in borders or beds, it will gradually lose acidity over time as it mixes with the existing soil. In order to retain and increase acidity you will need to regularly add acidifying materials to the soil. Add ericaceous feed or fertiliser to the soil to maintain acidity. Also worth noting is that when watering your ericaceous plants you should avoid using tap water (where possible) as treated tap water is generally alkaline. Ideally water with more acidic rain water.
