This dwarf Jerusalem artichoke is notably less invasive than standard types, as tubers remain clustered rather than spreading aggressively. 'Small Wonder' rarely exceeds 80?cm making it ideal for smaller gardens or containers. Despite its small size it still yields a generous cache of edible tubers over the winter when crops are sparse. The tubers have a sweet?nutty flavour reminiscent of artichoke hearts and are rich in inulin and valuable minerals and vitamins.
A low maintenance, perennial vegetable, Dwarf Jerusalem Artichoke 'Small Wonder' largely looks after itself. After harvest, simply leave some tubers in the ground and new ones will grow the following year.
This relative of the sunflower also offers the bonus of golden, sunflower-like blooms adding colour to your kitchen garden or allotment. With ornamental appeal and culinary potential combined, Dwarf Jerusalem Artichoke 'Small Wonder' makes an attractive and nutritious addition to any garden. Ultimate height: 80cm (31in). Ultimate spread: 40cm (16in).

Growing Jerusalem artichokes is easy and they require little aftercare. When plants reach a height of 30cm (12") mound earth halfway up their stems, to improve their stability as they grow. Water Jerusalem artichokes during particularly dry periods and feed very occasionally.
By late summer Jerusalem artichoke plants will have reached up to 3m (10') tall and should be cut back to 1.5m (5') to remove any flower heads and prevent them toppling over. Cut back the stems to just above ground level when the foliage begins to yellow and die back. Jerusalem artichokes can be harvested as and when required from October to February and will store underground for several months.
