This low growing evergreen has small leathery leaves and a lax habit, making it ideal for creating a cascading effect in containers or hanging baskets. The tiny pink flowers are followed by juicy dark-red berries with a distinctive tart flavour. If left unpicked the red berries often cling to the bushes throughout the winter, making a stunning contrast with the bronze winter foliage. Cranberry 'Pilgrim' is ideal for adding to a variety of dishes as well as making preserves and traditional cranberry sauce. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 30cm (12").

Estimated time to cropping once planted: 4-8 months.
Estimated time to best yields: 16-20 months.

1 x 9cm pot-grown cranberry bush (14297)

How to Grow
Cranberries plants require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. When growing cranberry plants in areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, try planting them in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3.
More Info
If possible, cranberry bushes should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. Cranberries require little pruning except for the occasional removal of damaged or misplaced shoots. Culinary note: Cranberries, are high in vitamins and nutrients. If made into a juice, gargled then swallowed, it can be used as an effective treatment for sore throats, coughs and colds.
