Description

We’ve selected some of our best three courgettes to give reliable and heavy crops on disease resistance plants. Fantastically easy to grow, they’re a must-have for the allotment, and include both yellow and green varieties to add extra colour to your dishes.

Courgette Collection contains 3 x 9cm potted plants, one of each of the following varieties:

  • Courgette ‘Sure Thing’ - Sure to produce heavy crops even in cool summers, and doesn’t require insect pollination so you can grow them in the greenhouse. Fruits are up to 20cm (8”) long and offer a stronger flavour than most other green varieties. Good resistance to powdery mildew until the late summer. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 90cm (36").
  • Courgette ‘Golden Glory’ F1 - a spineless courgette bearing excellent yields of bright yellow courgettes which crop over a long period. Height: 45cm (18”). Spread: 90cm (35”).
  • Courgette 'Twitter' - a vigorous, disease-resistant plant bearing dark green fruits which crop over a long period. Height: 45cm (18”). Spread: 90cm (35”).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Companion planting: Try growing courgettes with Calendula to attract pollinating insects which will in turn pollinate your courgette flowers.

How to Grow
Grow courgettes in moist, rich fertile, well drained soil in a sheltered position in full sun. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Space courgettes at a distance of 90cm (36") apart, and water thoroughly after planting. Cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. When growing courgettes, a thick mulch of organic matter spread around the plants will help to conserve moisture at the roots.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water courgettes regularly - do not allow the soil to dry out as this will impair their development. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing. Courgettes appreciate an application of a high potash fertiliser every two weeks during the growing season. Hand pollinating courgettes is not usually required when they are grown outdoors. However, for indoor cultivation the female flowers can be fertilised by pressing a male flower against them. Begin harvesting courgettes from midsummer onwards when they are 10cm (4") long. Regular harvesting will encourage more courgettes to be produced.
Culinary note: Courgette flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
