Description
Cornus mas ‘Aurea’ is forms a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub or small tree. The Spring foliage is golden yellow, maturing to bright yellow-green in Summer, before Autumn turns the leaves to shades of orange. Yellow flowers appear on naked stems in winter followed by oblong red berries which, although edible, have a sharp acidic flavour. Cornus mas ‘Aurea’ makes a useful specimen shrub, providing plenty of seasonal interest throughout the year. It also makes a useful hedging tree for breaking up long expanses of hedgerow. Height and spread: 5m (16.5’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

More Info
Feed and water dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, they will require less attention. To encourage plenty of colourful stems, Dogwood will need regular pollarding in early spring. Cut back all dogwood stems to 3 buds above soil level or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning. Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten. Irritant to skin and eyes.
