Description
A rounded, deciduous tree bearing spreading tiered branches. Elliptic 15cm (6") leaves are glossy, dark green above and glaucous beneath and turn a rich red-purple during the autumn. Fragrant, small, white star shaped flowers are produced in large cymes to 18cm (7’’) across during May and June. Spherical blue/black berries appear in autumn. An outstanding specimen tree for a larger garden as it does need space. Does best in fertile, humus rich, well drained neutral to acid soil in sun or partial shade. Fully hardy. Height: 15m (50’). Spread: 15m (50’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Cornus trees in rich fertile, well drained, neutral to acid soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve drainage and soil fertility. Plant dogwood trees in a sunny or semi-shaded position.
More Info
Feed and water flowering dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, Cornus trees require only occasional attention. Pruning dogwood is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in late winter or early spring. As the tree matures the lower branches can be removed to create a clear trunk. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant in spring. Caution: Fruits are harmful if eaten, leaf hairs may irritate skin and eyes.
