Description

A striking palm-like shrub, perfect for creating a tropical feel. Cordyline australis has an exotic look about it, with long, sword-shaped leaves which form tufts at the top of woody stems over time. This resilient evergreen is perfectly hardy in milder parts of the UK and is a particularly popular choice in coastal gardens for its tolerance to sea air, typically dry soils and exposed sites. Low maintenance and easy to grow, you can enjoy your round interest from this showy shrub with very little fuss at all. With a relatively narrow habit, it’s a great choice for front gardens and courtyards as well as within mixed borders where it can successfully be underplanted. Height: 6m (20’). Spread: 4m (23’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Cordylines on fertile, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun. Cordylines are particularly well suited to mild coastal locations but do enjoy a fertile soil, so it is well worth incorporating some well rotted manure into the soil when planting.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Cordylines need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip below-5C (23F). In cold areas it may be preferable to grow Cordylines in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
