Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
This energetic climber produces masses of fabulous big blue flowers - 12-14cm (5-6") across - which are prettily flushed with pink on the tips of the petals. Clematis 'Blue Explosion' will light up your garden from May to June, when its huge, semi-double blooms burst into flower on last year's growth, and then again in July to September on new growth with single blooms. You can't go wrong with this very striking clematis variety. 'Blue Explosion' will thrive in a sunny spot against a wall or fence, or in a container with either fixed or free-standing supports, where it will quickly and happily clamber, creating vertical colour and interest twice in the summer. Height: 300cm (118"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Pruning group 2.

Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. This variety of clematis flowers in summer on new stems which develop from the previous year’s growth. Pruning should be undertaken in spring before active growth begins. When pruning group 2 Clematis, remove any damaged or dead stems entirely before cutting back the remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
Pot up clematis plants and grow them on until large enough to plant in their final positions. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3") below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
