Culinary note: Both the leaves and flowers of candytuft can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to that of a sweet broccoli. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Sowing
Where to sow: Outdoors where they are to flower.
Preparation: Prepare the ground by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones.
Sowing: Sow 3mm (1/8in) deep, in rows 30cm (12in) apart, or scatter seed in beds or borders as a gap filler and lightly cover over. Germination usually takes 14-30 days.
Growing:When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 23cm (9in) apart. Water regularly until plants are fully established. Cut back the plants to remove faded candytuft flowers and maintain a neat, compact habit. The seed heads can be cut and dried for flower arrangements.
For earlier flowering: Sow outdoors during late summer/early autumn for overwintering.
