Description

Ligustrum makes a superb choice for beginners, being reasonably easy to train into an attractive evergreen Bonsai. Better known as Privet, these hardy trees are undemanding and respond well to pruning. The small, dark green leaves form a dense crown above a broad trunk of smooth, grey bark. Ligustrum will often produce small white flowers in spring followed by autumn berries, which give plenty of seasonal interest. Supplied with a ceramic pot and saucer (colour may vary). Height and spread: 30cm (12").

Please note: These trees have been carefully trained to create perfect miniatures of their full size siblings. Although many of the species used are perfectly hardy in the UK, these tiny trees are more susceptible to winter damage, given their size and the small volume of soil surrounding their roots. Therefore they are best protected from frost and cold winter weather by moving them to a cool, bright spot in the home or greenhouse.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Please note: Some houseplants are toxic or harmful to pets if ingested. If you believe your pet has consumed a poisonous plant then seek veterinary attention immediately. Take a sample of the plant with you.

How to Grow
These Bonsai Trees are best grown in a bright position indoors, away from the direct glare of strong sunlight. Avoid positions that are close to radiators and doorways where they will be affected by cold draughts. Generally, these trees will prefer a cool room such as a spare bedroom, home office or conservatory. In summer, they may be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions, and subsequently moved onto the patio if you prefer. Be sure to re-acclimatise them to indoor conditions again in early autumn, so that they can be kept frost free indoors during winter.
More Info
Bonsai trees have a small volume of compost at the roots – this can quickly dry out, so regular watering is needed to maintain reliably moist soil. Take care to drain plants well after each watering. Feed Bonsai regularly from March to September with a proprietary fertiliser. Bonsai trees should be repotted every two years or whenever necessary to prevent them becoming pot-bound. Regular pruning and training of Bonsai is an essential requirement to keep them small.
