Description
This unusual dwarf Birch is rarely seen but makes a fine specimen shrub for borders and the edge of woodland plantings. Betula nana has a low spreading habit with stiff stems that form a dense shrub. From March to May the brown catkins nestle among glossy, kidney shaped foliage. As summer ends, the leaves turn to colourful shades of buttery yellow and red. This tough little Birch is an arctic native growing predominantly on tundra, which makes it a great choice for shallow soils. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 120cm (48").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Birch on any moist, fertile, well drained soil. Birch trees thrive in full sun or lightly dappled shade and are generally tolerant of windy positions.
More Info
Feed and water Betula until fully established. Once established, Birch trees require no maintenance. If pruning is necessary to remove diseased or misplaced stems then this should be carried out in winter when the plant is dormant, as Birch has a tendency to bleed sap if pruned during the growing season.
