Begonia 'Apricot Shades Improved' is as versatile as it is beautiful! Large, cascading, double blooms will pour from your containers from July to October. You'll be enjoying gorgeous flowers in shades of apricot and orange that reach 6-10cm (2.5-4") in diameter all summer and well into autumn. These tuberous begonias will perform whatever the weather and can be placed in sunny or semi shaded positions. The abundant trailing habit of Begonia Apricot Shades Improved makes them a great value plant for hanging baskets, window boxes and Flower Pouches™, giving you a really impressive display that will light up even a shady corner. Tuber size 3/4. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 45cm (18").
Feed and water begonia plants frequently throughout the growing season taking care not to over-water, as this will cause new begonia flower buds to drop. Deadhead the single female begonia flowers to encourage more of the large double male flowers to be produced and to extend the flowering period.
Tubers are ideal for containers and baskets, making a larger plant in the first year than plug plants or growing from seed. From February, start tuberous begonias off in well-drained, moist compost in a warm, frost-free position in bright light. When planting begonia tubers, position them just below the compost surface with the indented side facing upwards. In hanging baskets the tubers can be planted at a 45 degree angle with their roots toward the centre, to encourage plants to cascade over the sides of the basket. When begonia plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in their final positions. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from strong winds.
