Description
Commonly known as the Cast Iron Plant for its resilience, even when neglected! Aspidistra elatior is a particularly elegant foliage plant with upright, glossy leaves that arch gracefully at the leaf tips. This reliable house plant was extremely popular with the Victorians not least because of its ability to withstand, drought, pollution and low light levels. An ideal focal point for a hallway table, cool conservatory or a shaded corner of your home. Height and spread: 90cm (36").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Please note: Some houseplants are toxic or harmful to pets if ingested. If you believe your pet has consumed a poisonous plant then seek veterinary attention immediately. Take a sample of the plant with you.

How to Grow
Position Aspidistra in a warm room, with an average temperature of 15-24C (60-75F). Aspidistras can tolerate much cooler conditions if necessary, down to a minimum of 8C (45F). A brightly lit room is ideal, well away from the glare of full sun. However Aspidistra will happily tolerate much lower light conditions.
More Info
Water regularly to maintain evenly moist compost, allowing the surface of the soil to dry ourt slightly between waterings. Avoid leaving Aspidistra in standing water as this may cause it to rot. In winter, reduce watering but do not allow the compost to dry out completely. House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
