Description

Aquilegia x hybrida 'Earlybird Red Yellow' is a stunning and adaptable plant that can enhance any garden space with its eye-catching flowers while also benefiting local pollinators. Its compact growth habit and vibrant blooms make it an excellent choice for a variety of settings, whether in garden borders or decorative containers. This plant truly shines in any landscape, bringing a splash of color and life wherever it is planted.

The flowers are a delightful mix of colors, featuring bright red outer petals that contrast beautifully with the soft yellow inner petals, all adorned with elegant, elongated spurs. Blooming from late spring to early summer, typically between May and June in the UK, these plants create a striking display. The lush, green, fern-like leaves form a tidy mound, adding to the overall appeal of the plant while also providing a habitat for beneficial insects like bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds.

With a height and spread of about 30cm, each individual bloom measures approximately 4 cm in diameter. For optimal growth and air circulation, it's recommended to plant them 25–30 cm apart. They thrive in partial shade but can also tolerate full sun in cooler regions, preferring moist, well-drained soil. This hardy plant can withstand the harsh winters found in many parts of the UK, making it a reliable choice for gardeners looking to add early-season color to their borders, patio containers, or window boxes. Regular maintenance, such as removing spent flowers and dividing clumps every few years, will ensure that these beautiful plants continue to flourish and contribute to local biodiversity.
