Description

Anemone coronaria 'Meron Bordeaux' is a stunning choice for gardens in the UK, bringing a burst of early spring color with very little upkeep. Its compact growth and deep, dark flowers make it a flexible option for a variety of garden designs. This perennial is perfect for those looking to add a touch of elegance without demanding too much attention.

The flowers feature rich, velvety maroon petals that showcase a dark purple center, creating an almost black effect that adds a dramatic flair to any garden. Each bloom measures around 8 to 8.5 cm in diameter, making them a striking focal point in both borders and floral arrangements. The dark green, finely divided leaves create a lush base that beautifully complements the vibrant flowers.

This compact, tuberous perennial typically grows to a height of 40 to 50 cm, making it ideal for borders, containers, and rock gardens. It flourishes in full sun to partial shade, needing at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight each day to thrive. Well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter like compost will boost its growth and flowering potential. Regular watering is essential during the growing season, but care should be taken to prevent waterlogging. Once established, it can tolerate moderate drought conditions. To promote healthy growth and abundant blooms, apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring and deadhead spent flowers to encourage ongoing flowering. After the blooming period, cut the stems back to ground level to prepare for dormancy, and consider adding mulch in spring to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
