Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Agapanthus are spectacular border plants, which look exotic, but are fully hardy in the UK, and will last for many years in the right position. The strap-like leaves create a robust, space-filling clump in the border, and play host to 80cm (31") stems topped with deep blue, trumpet-shaped blooms in late summer.

Agapanthus is evergreen and will excel in Mediterranean-style plantings. Plants will appreciate a sheltered corner, and can be grown in the border or patio containers. The late summer flower displays of the African Lily are a sight to behold. Height: 1m (39"). Spread: 50cm (19").

Flowering Months
Feed and water African Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded Agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blacken the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become over crowded.
Plant in rich fertile, well drained soil, which is in a position of full sun. To grow Agapanthus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3 .
