Description

Exotic, hardy plants with globes made up of many small, trumpet-like blooms in pure white, coming up from robust, grassy foliage. Agapanthus africanus 'Albus' makes an outstanding border perennial for a sunny position in the garden.

African Lilies also make attractive patio container plants; especially in aged terracotta containers. They are easy maintenance plants, and only need re-potting every few years. For something new, try cutting a few blooms of your African Lilies and display them in a vase indoors. Height: 1m (39"). Spread: 50cm (19").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 10 litre potted agapanthus plant (KB9200)
1 x 9cm potted agapanthus plant (KC0857)

How to Grow
Plant in rich fertile, well drained soil, which is in a position of full sun. To grow Agapanthus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3 .
More Info
Feed and water African Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded Agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blacken the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become over crowded.
