Description

With a neat and compact habit, elegant glossy foliage and fragrant flowers over a long season, few shrubs can compare with Abelia x grandiflora 'Raspberry Profusion'. Selected for early and profuse flowering, it is smothered in tubular raspberry-pink flowers from spring to autumn, giving colour for months.  Even after flowering has finished, its red sepals continue to provide colour and interest until late autumn. It has also been selected for its sweet fragrance, appealing not only to gardeners that love scent but also bees and butterflies – so much so that the flowers constantly hum with activity. Small, pointed, semi-evergreen foliage takes on bronze and purple hues in autumn and winter, completing what is undeniably one of the handsomest shrubs. Ultimate height and spread: 90cm to 120cm (35-47in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Abelia x grandiflora in garden borders in any fertile, well drained garden soil, in full sun. Alternatively grow Abelia plants in patio containers using soil based compost.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water container-grown plants regularly. Deadhead faded Abelia flowers to prolong the flowering season. In exposed areas or those where winters are severe, apply a deep bark mulch around the base of Glossy Abelia plants in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound mulch up against the main stem. Alternatively protect with horticultural fleece. In late spring, trim Abelia x grandiflora lightly and remove any shoots which spoil the symmetry of the plant.
