Over a century old, this deciduous shrub is a firm favourite among many gardeners, which is exactly why the RHS have awarded Spiraea x vanhouttei a prestigious Award of Garden Merit. Known for its dark green foliage and summer display of pure white flowers, this is the perfect plant to grow towards the back of the border. The foliage turns a conspicuous shade of purple in autumn, which also makes this the perfect plant for dense informal hedge. Height: 180cm (71"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Grow Spiraea in a sunny position, in any fertile, moist, well-drained soil.
More Info For best performance, prune flowered shoots of Spiraea plants immediately after flowering. Mature specimens can be cut back by a quarter of the old shoots to the base.
