Description
This showy perennial is sure to grab the limelight at the front of your sunny borders. Slender blue-green foliage forms a dense clump over time, reminiscent of Iris, to which it is closely related. Once it begins to flower, there’s really no mistaking Sisyrinchium palmifolium 'Canary' for anything else! The slender stems arch upwards, tipped with sprays of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers. This unusual plant does require patience, as germination can be highly erratic, but the persistent gardener will be rewarded with a superb perennial that will dazzle you year after year. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 15cm (6").

1 packet (15 sisyrinchium seeds) (76469)

Sowing

Sow Sisyrinchium seed from February to April at a depth of 1.5mm in a free-draining, damp seed compost, and cover with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place container in a propagator or seal inside a plastic bag and place at a temperature of 10-15C (50-59F) until after germination. Germination can be extremely erratic and may take from 30-180 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.

When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into trays or 7.5cm (3”) pots and grow them on in cooler conditions. When plants are well grown, and all risk of frost pas passed, gradually acclimatize them to outdoor conditions over 7 – 10 days before planting out in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.

More Info
Water Sisyrinchium plants regularly until they are fully established. Sisyrinchium requires virtually no maintenance. Cut back the old foliage to just above ground level in autumn to maintain a tidy appearance.
