Description

Rudbeckia fulgida 'Viette’s Little Suzy' is a delightful perennial that stands out for its compact growth and vibrant, daisy-like flowers. This charming plant is celebrated for its extended blooming period, showcasing an abundance of cheerful golden-yellow petals that encircle a striking dark brown center. From mid to late summer, these bright blooms create a stunning display, making it an excellent choice for adding a splash of color to garden borders and container arrangements. Its low-maintenance nature ensures that it remains a favorite among gardeners looking for beauty without the fuss.

The compact habit of 'Viette’s Little Suzy' makes it particularly well-suited for smaller gardens, where it can be used effectively as edging or in pots. The dark green foliage forms tidy mounds that provide structure and visual interest even when the plant is not in bloom. This perennial is not only aesthetically pleasing but also beneficial for the ecosystem, as it attracts a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, which are essential for maintaining a healthy garden environment.

In terms of care, 'Viette’s Little Suzy' thrives in full sun and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Once established, it demonstrates impressive drought tolerance, although it appreciates occasional watering during dry spells. The plant requires minimal maintenance, with deadheading recommended to encourage prolonged flowering. Notably, it exhibits good resistance to mildew compared to other Rudbeckia varieties, making it a reliable choice for gardeners. Hardy in most regions of the UK, this perennial can withstand typical winter conditions without the need for protective measures, ensuring it returns year after year to brighten your garden. Height: 45 cm (18 in) Spread: 45 cm (18 in).

How to Grow
Grow rudbeckia plants in sun or semi shade. Rudbeckia enjoys a fertile, preferably heavy soil that is rich in organic matter and well drained. Coneflowers resent drought and dislike soils that dry out in summer.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water rudbeckia plants regularly. Deadhead faded rudbeckia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Cut plants down to the crown at the end of the season and cover with a dry mulch of straw or wood chippings to protect from winter extremes.
