Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green'Austrian Pine, Black Pine

Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green' is a moderately slow growing black pine, forming a pyramidal tree composed of open, upright branches. Stiff, bright green, slightly twisted needles, up to 12cm long, grow in pairs. In spring, new shoots emerge as erect, waxy candles and are followed by miniature cones about 10cm long.

This robust conifer is an excellent selection for difficult sites, being extremely cold hardy and tolerating poor soils. Enjoying hot, sunny sites and tolerant of wind, drought and salt spray, Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green' is a particularly good choice for coastal gardens where it acts as a superb windbreak, or several trees can be planted to form a shelterbelt.
