Description
This majestic native is a familiar feature of wetlands across Britain. Phragmites australis produces tall stems of glossy foliage topped with feathery, purple flower heads. Commonly known as Common Reed or Norfolk Reed, this vigorous perennial grass offers valuable habitat for wildlife, and is often used in sewage treatment and for thatching roofs. Height and spread: 3m (118"). Planting depth: Zones 1, 2 & 3 to 50cm (20") below water level.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 3 litre potted phragmites plant (78390)

How to Grow
Grow Phragmites in moist, boggy soils or fully submerged in ponds to a maximum depth of up to 50cm (20") below water level. Choose a position in full sun.
More Info
Phragmites needs little maintenance and will look after itself once established. Cut back to just above the water's surface in autumn to maintain a tidy appearance, or leave the seed heads in place for their attractive wintery tracery.
