Description

Peony 'Pin Hong' is a distinguished tree peony variety celebrated for its vibrant, fully double blooms in a striking deep rose-pink hue. The name "Pin Hong," which translates to "Pink Red," aptly captures the warmth and intensity of its floral display that graces gardens each spring.

This cultivar exhibits an upright and rounded growth habit, maturing into a robust woody shrub over time. Its foliage consists of finely divided, deep green leaves that maintain their visual appeal throughout the growing season. The large, lustrous blooms emerge in mid to late spring, showcasing a rich saturation of color that enhances the overall aesthetic of any garden.

Peony 'Pin Hong' thrives in full sun to light shade, benefiting from some protection against the harsh afternoon sun. It prefers moist, well-drained, and fertile soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. This hardy plant is ideal for use as a specimen in traditional borders or in combination with other spring-flowering shrubs, attracting a few pollinators while primarily serving as an ornamental feature. Maintenance is minimal, requiring only the removal of dead or damaged wood and a layer of mulch in early spring to promote healthy growth and flowering.

How to Grow
Grow tree peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position that is sheltered from cold winds and shaded from strong early morning sunlight. They prefer a well drained, rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant tree peonies so that the grafted union sits at least 10cm (4") below the soil surface. Shallow planting may hinder establishment and delay flowering.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water regularly until peony plants are fully established. Thereafter, herbaceous peonies require little maintenance and will grow happily for many years if left undisturbed. However, they will appreciate a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost applied around the base of the plant in spring. Plants may take several years to establish before they produce their spectacular peony flowers. Caution: harmful if eaten.
