Big tobacco 2013-08-17
Everything the previous review is true. But for those new to this species, you have to appreciate how large they can get in a warm summer such as 2013. I raised mine from seed and planted the pot-ons out mid-bed in June. I then went away for a month or so. On return I had a solid mass of 6' high spikes some of the leaves must have been 2'x1'. Brilliant, but my Rudbeckia, Echiniacea, Verbena, etc -hardly diminutive spp - were part-shaded out! If in full sun and fertile soil I recommend N. sylvestris is planted toward the back of large beds.
Well worth sowing 2011-07-25
A mass germination,so many friends benefitted, pricked out to many seeds trays.I plant them a little closer than recommended as I found last year that they support one another, they have huge leaves so watch out for slugs and snails hiding. Here we are in mid July and they have begun to flower.I almost feel like sitting in the flower borders as the scent is beautiful .Not too heady but it makes growing these all the more worthwhile.
