Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews Video

A brand new strain of edible fuchsia berry from Thompson & Morgan's own breeding programme. Not only does the FUCHSIABERRY produce large sweet fruits packed with vitamin C and nutrients, it also produces beautiful blooms right through to autumn.

This fuchsia plant is the perfect addition to garden displays, but the heavy fruit yields make the Fuchsia Berry a worthwhile addition to allotments too, helping to create a pretty and productive plot! Though frost tender, the FUCHSIABERRY can be kept through winter if protected in a sheltered spot or in a greenhouse.

The fruits have a flavour somewhere between a fig and a kiwi. Each plant will produce up to 300 delicious juicy berries, FUCHSIABERRY is partially self-fertile and will crop without a pollination companion; but for the heaviest crops it is best grown with other fuchsias.

Unlike other Fuchsia varieties it will keep on flowering even when producing fruit - right up to the first frost. The FUCHSIABERRY is set to change allotments and flower borders in the UK. Height 90cm (36"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Culinary note: Add the beautiful coloured flowers to salads, crystallise them for a sweet garnish or add them to jellies for an extra splash of colour. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Feed and water plants regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded fuchsia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a deep mulch of bark around the base of hardy fuchsias in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound mulch up against the main stem. Prune stems back to a low permanent framework in spring.
Plant hardy fuchsias into light, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. When growing in containers, use a quality, well drained compost such as John Innes No.3. Pinch out the growing tips of your fuchsia plants once, to promote bushier growth and more flowers.

Unpleasant taste! 2016-10-16

I too decided to try these this year. While they have put on good growth and flowered well, (I have kept them well watered) they do not taste anything like a fig or kiwi to me, in fact the after taste is horrid! Will they improve given another year? Time will tell!

Disappointing 2016-09-16

I've read Michael's review and would agree. The plants are OK and the flowers plentiful and pretty, but the berries are too small to be of any use. The couple that did develop were pretty awful - astringent with a bitter after-taste which didn't go for hours, so I certainly would recommend eating them despite their alleged health benefits!

Nice berries 2016-09-11

Although 2 of the plants died, the other 3 have grown ok and are still flowering/berrying now (9th Nov). You have to let the berries ripen on the plant before picking and eating them - they are very bitter otherwise.

Lots of flowers and berries 2016-08-30

I am totally satisfied with the plants. They are growing very well and have produced an abundance of flowers and fruit. Well done.

berries not developing 2016-08-24

Getting lots of seeds pods - but they do not appear to be developing. Only two have started to turn purple but remain very small. No growth at all. They are in pots and well fed with a liquid fertilizer, lots of growth in straggly stems (they were pinched out), lots of flowers but fruit? No real sign.

T&M replied on 2016-08-25: Thank you for your review. I am sorry to learn of your disappointment with your purchase. The berries not developing much is most likely down to the weather conditions we experienced earlier in the season, as many plants have suffered due to this. Your plants should produce better berries next year with no problems. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to email our Team at ccare@thompson-morgan.com

Stunning flowers but so far no berries 2016-08-17

The plants are doing wonderfully but not fruiting. Is it because this is their first year? Or perhaps insufficient potash fertilizer? The Aftercare instructions for this plant seem inadequate. I am hoping the plants will survive under a cloche here in southeast England, and that next season the promised fruit will develop. If so, I will rate them a 5++. But for now, they only get a 3. Great for the flowers but more was promised.

T&M replied on 2016-08-17: Thank you very much for your review. I am glad that you have been happy with your purchase, although I am sorry to hear that you have not had the berries as yet. This may have been down to the weather conditions earlier in the season, as many plants did suffer because of it. Your plants should produce Berries next year with no problems. NO BERRIES very disappointed. the plants all Healthy and grown well but all the flowers have fallen and not left any berries of which I was very looking forward to trying. So a complete waste of time sorry.

Help with fruits please. 2016-07-31

Hi, when can I pick the fruits of the Fuchsia berry please?

T&M replied on 2016-08-01: Thank you for your review. Pick the berries once they have reached their dark colour. The best way to check if they are ripe is to see if they are soft. If they are, then this will be the best time to pick them.

Failing! 2016-07-08

Arrived ok and potted up into pots and kept until they were a little bigger and stronger. Went into the garden border and anticipated these new fruits with eagerness. But what a disappointment. They have failed to thrive despite watering and fuscha feed. Now down to two. Not a happy bunny at all. Gave one to a friend who has reared hers as a house plant being disabled and hers is doing very well. An outside plan - no I don't think so.

Great idea! 2016-06-24

The breeding of this edible berried fucia was a fantastic idea, and the finished product is well worth buying. Mine arrived in good condition, and after planting proved to be rearing to grow. I am using them to enhance the decorative boarders of my herb garden, where I like to combine herbs, fruit and flowers.

Fuchsia berry 2016-06-19

Very happy with my five thriving plants! I'm just wondering when to pick the berries - how do I know when the fruit is ripe? Approx how long after the flower has dropped off?

Pleased so far 2016-06-15

They arrived slightly wilted but recovered quickly. Potted on into small pots and will pot up again soon. They're doing well. Can't comment on the flowering period or berry taste yet but will update when I can.

4/5 isn't too bad I suppose 2016-05-23

5 ordered one stone dead on arrival. Planted them all anyway. 4 coming on nicely: the fifth never stood a chance.

Wait & See 2016-05-20

I purchased these plants and they arrived within the specified period. However 3/10 looked a bit sad when I opened the packaging. I potted them all up and 7 are still looking well, but the wee ones are struggling. I emailed T&M and they said to wait & see, suggesting the problem could be due to the compost, but they looked sad before then. Hopefully they will all recover, but T&M suggested contacting them again if they don't, which is excellent customer care.

5 out of 10 have survived 2016-05-15

Only half have survived planting out so far. They are in an area where I've had great success with Fuchsia before (previous plants have been cut down in error by my gardener after they flowered 3 times in one year due to our strange weather!!)

Delicate 2016-04-20

I bought 5 postplugs which arrived fine. One was a bit of a runt and died within a few days of delivery and the others trailed off over the next few weeks though kept in during frost. I haven't had this problem with fuchias before and am disappointed.
