Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Video
This magnificent deciduous fern forms large ‘shuttle-cock’ shaped clumps of slender, arching fronds. This large hardy perennial reaches up to 1m (39") tall and needs space to be seen at its best. Like most ferns, Dryopteris filix-mas 'Linearis' enjoys damp soils in dappled shade, making it perfect for woodlands, damp borders and planting at the edge of shaded ponds. The Male Fern has also been awarded an RHS AGM for its excellent garden performance. Height and spread: 100cm (39"). Planting depth: Zone 1 in moist or boggy soil.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. Sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this, so regretfully we are unable to ship live plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3

Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Apply mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant in spring.
Plant Dryopteris in a sheltered spot. Choose a position in dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral, soil. Dryopteris ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
