Description

Start spring with a flourish and end autumn in a blaze of richly coloured fruit and foliage – Crab Apple 'Brandy Magic' is a superb choice for smaller gardens, delivering striking interest across multiple seasons.

Crab Apple 'Brandy Magic' bursts into abundant semi-double, rich pink blooms each spring that captivate pollinators and create a feast for the eyes. The flowers are followed by clusters of decorative, fragrant fruits in glowing yellow-orange tones that are enjoyed by birds. The fruits persist until Christmas extending its seasonal appeal. Lush green foliage turns warm yellow and russet hues in the fall, adding further colour, while the bird- and bee-friendly nature of this ornamental crab apple brings wildlife to your outdoor space and ensures year-round interest. With an attractive upright habit that develops into a broad, rounded crown, it makes an elegant standalone feature for the small to medium garden. RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Ultimate height: 4m (13ft). Ultimate spread: 3m (9.8ft).

How to Grow
Plant crab apple trees in a sheltered, sunny position in any fertile, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Fruit trees do not suffer weed competition well. Keep weeds and grass clear from within a 30cm radius of base of the tree. In spring, while the ground is moist, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the base of the tree, taking care not to mound it up against the stem. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer. Feed and water crab apple trees during particularly dry periods. Crab apples require only minimal pruning in late winter or spring, to remove damaged, diseased or misplaced growth. Crab apple fruits can be harvested from autumn onwards to make delicious crab apple jelly.
