Chilli Pepper ‘Padron’ is famous for its use in the delicious Spanish tapas dish -  picked immature and green, then fried in olive oil and served with salt. At this stage the young fruit are tender and can be eaten whole, although the odd pepper may surprise you with a spicier kick than the rest! If the peppers are left to ripen to red, they gain a mild heat of around 8,000 SHU and can be used for spicier dishes. A vigorous and productive variety, Chilli Pepper ‘Padron’ will keep cropping if you pick the fruits when green and immature. Height: 1.2m (47in). Spread: 60cm (24in).

Chilli peppers may be grown undercover in a greenhouse or polytunnel, or grown outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun. Small varieties can also be grown on a sunny kitchen windowsill. Pot up young plants and grow them on in warm frost free conditions. When plants are well grown transplant them into grow bags and containers, or plant them in well prepared beds of fertile, well drained soil. When growing chilli peppers outdoors, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to transplanting them. Space pepper plants at a distance of 50cm (20") apart.
